According to the article "Krypton-85" it states "Krypton-85 is a radioactive gas found in the atmosphere and produced by nuclear explosions, nuclear power plants, volcanoes and earthquakes" ("Krypton-85", par 1). The chemical element (Kr) is a rare gas of group 0 (noble gases) of the periodic table. The Krypton gas is about three times heavier than air and it is colourless, odourless and tasteless. The Kr element is usually created in gas mixtures with argon or xenon to refine the ionization in light bulbs by lessening their starting voltage.

Based on the article "Krypton- Kr- Purity" it explains "Krypton is used in certain fluorescents lamps and in a flash lamp employed in high- speed photography" ("Krypton- Kr- Purity", par. 5). Moreover, the article begins to talk about the radioactive Krypton-85 is effective for identifying leaks in sealed containers, with the escaping atoms detected by means of their radiation. The detailed description of the isotope Krypton-85 is describe as the mass number being 85 and the atomic number being 36. In addition, the number of protons (P) and electrons (E) summing to 36 and neutrons (N) 49.
